Call for Panels: 2022 ECPR General Conference

Section "21st Century International Organizations"

After several successful sections since 2016, we – Maria Debre (University of Potsdam) and Vytautas Jankauskas (University of Konstanz) – are planning to submit a follow-up section for the 2022 ECPR General Conference in Innsbruck, Austria (22 – 26 August 2022).

As you will see from the draft title and section description below, we hope to continue the diversity of conversations of previous years, hopefully by finally meeting all of you again in person next year.

If you are interested in joining this section with a panel, please send us a panel description with a title, the names of 1-2 (co-)chair(s), email address of the corresponding chair and a mini-description of your panel idea. This submission should have 80-100 words altogether. If selected, your descriptions would then become part of the overall section proposal that we need to submit by Wednesday, 8 December 2021. We will be in touch with section panelists with a list of proposed panels before final submission. Should we receive more than 8 proposals (the max number per section), we might suggest collaborations. Please note that we would be happy to achieve gender parity when it comes to the panel (co-)chairs.

We would ask you to get back to us with panel proposals (including names of (co-)chairs) by Sunday, 5 December 2021, so we have time to coordinate before the ECPR deadline:

Vytas: vytautas.jankauskas@uni-konstanz.de

Maria: debre@uni-potsdam.de

You don’t need a list of papers yet (4-5 per panel), just the short panel description itself. It would be good, though, to have an idea of who at least some of the prospective panel participants would be. Feel free to include that information, if you have it, in a short additional note. However, you will only have to submit the full panel proposal including papers at the next submission stage after the section has been approved, so there is still some time for that.

We are very much looking forward to your proposals! Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or suggestions, and feel free to forward the call or to encourage relevant colleagues to submit a panel!

Best wishes,

Maria and Vytas

**DRAFT SECTION DESCRIPTION**

21st Century International Organizations: Power, Politics, and Global Policy Making

This Section addresses various aspects of the design, dynamics and impact of international organizations (IOs) in the political and societal landscape of the early 21st century. The section’s panels raise questions about if, how and why state power, bureaucratic politics, stakeholder groups, among other things, influence IO policy making at global and regional level and across fields. Papers encompass a diverse set of IOs – global and regional IOs, formal and informal IOs, traditional IOs and new multi-stakeholder partnerships – in a variety of policy domains. With the field of IO studies diversifying, the Section explicitly encourages theoretical, conceptual, methodological and empirical conversations within and between different (sub-)disciplines interested in IOs, from International Relations and International Public Administration to Global History, International Political Economy, Organizational Sociology, or Global Public Policy.
