(2010): An agent-based model of collective emotions in online communities The European Physical Journal B. Springer. 2010, 77(4), pp. 533-545. ISSN 1434-6028. eISSN 1434-6036. Available under: doi: 10.1140/epjb/e2010-00292-1
We develop an agent-based framework to model the emergence of collective emotions, which is applied to online communities. Agent’s individual emotions are described by their valence and arousal. Using the concept of Brownian agents, these variables change according to a stochastic dynamics, which also considers the feedback from online communication. Agents generate emotional information, which is stored and distributed in a field modeling the online medium. This field affects the emotional states of agents in a non-linear manner. We derive conditions for the emergence of collective emotions, observable in a bimodal valence distribution. Dependent on a saturated or a superlinear feedback between the information field and the agent’s arousal, we further identify scenarios where collective emotions only appear once or in a repeated manner. The analytical results are illustrated by agent-based computer simulations. Our framework provides testable hypotheses about the emergence of collective emotions, which can be verified by data from online communities.

(2010): Age, Resistence to Change, and Job Performance : Testing for a Common Stereotype Academy of Management Proceedings. Academy of Management. 2010(1). ISSN 0065-0668. eISSN 2151-6561. Available under: doi: 10.5465/ambpp.2010.54495229
The article discusses evidence on the relationship between employees' age and their resistance to change. It considers organizational tenure and occupational status as potential moderators in explaining the age/resistance to change association. Resistance to change is introduced as a potential mediator in the age/job performance relationship. A negative linkage between age and individual resistance to change is observed, which suggests that some younger employees were more resistant to change than older workers. Having a longer organizational tenure and being a blue collar worker are also identified as positive boundary conditions for the relationship between age and resistance to change.

(2010): Sectoral social dialogue at EU level - recent results and implementation challenges Transfer: European Review of Labour and Research. 2010, 16(4), pp. 489-507. ISSN 1024-2589. Available under: doi: 10.1177/1024258910382977
This article deals with recent developments in EU social dialogue, namely so-called 'new generation texts', which are non-binding legally, but 'implementation-oriented'. Aspects of their follow-up, implementation and multi-level characteristics are therefore discussed. Findings from two sectoral dialogues indicate that follow-up procedures can vary considerably. Furthermore, the implementation or impact of such 'new generation texts' seem hard to prove. It is argued that characteristics of national industrial relations systems are insufficient to explain implementation results, since both the interests and attitudes of the actors involved and the specific topic of a given 'new generation text' must be taken into account. The main difficulty is found to be the lack of adequate implementation structures due to missing inter- and intraorganizational 'level linkage'.

Information exchange in policy networks is usually attributed to preference similarity, influence reputation, social trust and institutional actor roles. We suggest that political opportunity structures and transaction costs play another crucial role and estimate a rich statistical network model on tie formation in the German toxic chemicals policy domain. The results indicate that the effect of preference similarity is absorbed by other determinants while opportunity structures indeed have to be taken into account. We also find that different types of information exchange operate in complementary, but not necessarily congruent, ways.
