Ethnic Policies: The Sámi in Norway and Sweden
The project deals with specific ethnic policies (recognition, land- and reindeer-related, language and educational regulations) towards the Sámi in Norway and Sweden. It asks which consequences such policies have on structural and perceived inequalities, and if the different policies in both countries exert effects on language proficiency, socio-economic inequalities and feelings of discrimination among the Sámi. We employ a survey of Norwegian/Swedish and Sámi population in the Sápmi area and language proficiency tests to answer these questions.
