On February 13, 2018 Professor Mergel presented her research findings on big data and data science approaches in the public sector at the Foresight Center, the Parliament of Estonia's Think Tank, Estonia, Tallinn.

On February 12, 2018, Professor Mergel presented her research on digital service teams at Tallinn Technological University, Estonia. She spoke about human-centered design approaches in the public sector to improve digital design processes.

Dr. Noella Edelmann joins the research team starting January 1, 2018.

In 2017, Professor Mergel served as an expert for the Estonian government and authored a report based on expert interviews with Estonian ICT experts in the public, private and non-profit sector.

On November 1, a new EU project started that studies digital transformation practices in the public sector.

With the support of an internal grant from the "Transfer Lehre" project, Professor Mergel is offering a BA seminar that helps to bridge research, practice and teaching experiences. The students will conduct interviews with experts and present their findings to the mayor's office at the end of the seminar.

As part of the release of the "E-Government Monitor 2017", Professor Mergel presented the first findings of her international comparative research project "Digital Service Teams in the Public Sector" at the Department of Interior in Berlin.

Starting October 1, 2017, Professor Mergel will join the editorial board of the journal "Public Management Review" (PMR), one of the premier European public management journals.
