The first steps at a new university can be exciting! We want to make sure that your transition will be as smooth as possible. We have compiled some information on housing, visa, orientation programmes to make you feel at home quickly.

As international student, we highly recommend to apply for the orientation programs as they will walk you through all formalities (such as setting up a bank account, getting health insurance, etc.). We also recommend to apply for accomodation in the student residences as the housing situation in Konstanz is very tense.

FAQs study start and course selection

How do I make out my schedule in the first semester?

In the SEDS program course selection is quite flexible and highly dependent on your pre-knowledge and own interests.

You make out your individual study plan with our online study portal ZEuS

Detailed information and guidance how to navigate in ZEuS are availalbe in the ZEuS Wiki: ZEuS Infos for Freshers.

What about the Foundations?

Depending on your pre-knowledge (at least three courses in two Focus Areas) you will have obligations regarding the Foundations for your first two semesters.

After having checked your applications documents, you will receive an email by me with the relevant information which Focus Areas still have to be completed. After your first study year you will have finished at least one course in each Focus Area, also your pre-knowledge taken into account.

For those of you who have already finished all four Focus Area in former studies, there are no restrictions.

The Foundations module builds the basis for being well prepared for all the advanced courses.

Is there a document which gives me orientation with selecting my courses?

Yes. In the course catalogue there are all courses listed which can be allocated in the respective module.

The document is available on the wegpage Master Social and Economic Data Science.

In case of uncertainties about your course selection please do not hesitate to contact your student advisor: seds.admin@uni.kn.

How do I get access to course material?

All course material is provided on our online learning platform Ilias. Log in is possible with your university email address. By registering for a course in ZEuS you automatically have access to the Ilias course.

Who helps me when I have problems with my university email address or WiFi?

The Communication, Information, Media Centre (KIM) provides all services around the university email address, WiFi on campus and remote access, literature, ...

Are there any orientation programmes for new students?
